What were your favorite books growing up? Do you remember how they made you feel, the adventures you went on, and the lessons you learned? Did you realize you were also improving your vocabulary, world perspective, and media literacy all the while?
This is the same thing we want for children in Africa. But many of the families and homes we have visited don’t have the financial freedom to explore the world of reading. They use what little they have to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.
So we have started Kusoma S.T.A.R. - Students & Teachers with Access to Reading.
This program is a partnership between Weird Disciple Publishing and Project Lucas to ensure children in Kenya have sufficient reading material to grow. From textbooks and workbooks to novels and narratives, Kusoma S.T.A.R. aims to provide literary material to children in Ruiru, Kenya as a way to build vocabulary, improve cultural competency, and develop complex language learning skills.
A program like this can only thrive with your help.

Monetary Donations
The funds you donate help Project Lucas with purchasing textbooks. Their current budget focuses on paying teachers, complying with government fees, and buying food for the families of their students. Your donation will allow them to purchase much-needed textbooks and workbooks for their students, directly helping them to succeed in learning.
Book Donations
The books you donate help Project Lucas with creating a school library. These students love reading but have very little, if any, leisure material to enjoy. Your donation could be the story that stokes their creativity, drives their desire to learn, or broadens their world perspective.
Together, we can positively impact the lives of these children. Our goal is to one day expand Kusoma S.T.A.R. to other schools, such as Baptist Education Center and God’s Will Academy, to ensure more children get the literary enrichment they need to succeed. Please reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas.
Got some old books you aren't going to use anymore? If they are in decent and readable condition, they can be donated to Kusoma S.T.A.R. The program prefers books in English, Swahili, or French, but will accept any language. Below are our targeted reading levels:
Fiction Books: Pre-school through early High School
Non-Fiction Books: All Grades and Ages
Make sure you are truly ready to part with these books. Once they are donated, they cannot be returned!
